What would you be willing to sacrifice to achieve something you’re passionate about? Emerging Christian Inspirational artist’s, Danielle Hutchins, single “Shooting Star” is based on her dream that she endlessly pushed towards despite many obstacles and sacrifices along the way.
“Have you ever wanted something so bad to live a different life than you have, you close your eyes hoping you get that chance to wish your dreams into reality don’t miss your one chance”
Her debut EP “Perception” is a story based on her experiences in l ife, family, church, friends, and God. Perception is geared towards the difficulties that one can encounter and struggling to stay positive despite one’s faith, or relationship with their church. The EP gives listeners a glimpse of her heart on the issues of the church verses chasing your dream. At times when life’s circumstances are really testing a person, addressing them, talking through them and leveraging the Church is what many lean on. In doing so, Danielle has felt reassured and supported by her Church family, but there have been times of frustration where the community tends to “sweep a lot of issues under the rug and still shout & dance as if the other person is not hurting.” She refers to this as the "mirror effect" - “we see what's wrong with us, but we sometimes cover it up with smiles and laughs.” Her love and dedication to Church is a priority in her life, but the deeper focus is what lies within her.
With this project, Danielle’s goal is to inspire people to achieve their dreams no matter life's circumstances, inner thoughts or challenges whether those obstacles are dealt with and managed individually, or with group support and resources.
When writing the Shooting Star, she imagined herself lying outside under the dark sky with bright stars up above, picturing herself performing on stages. Yet a prominent lyric that she included was based on her reality, “I just remembered my rent is 6 days late.” Life beyond her hometown was bringing on challenges she couldn't have imagined.
Born in Tacoma WA, and raised in Augusta, GA, Danielle discovered her musical talent at the young age of ten. Her mother’s encouragement for singing and writing in tandem with her late- Great Uncle, Alvin Young’s, guidance on rapping, helped Danielle find her greatest interest. At the young age of 17, she locked in her passion of pursuing a career as a solo artist.
After being offered what was an artist’s dream of attending a high profile Music School in Los Angele s, Danielle had to decline t he offer due to financial limitations. Her persistence to take her knowledge and skill set to the next level didn’t slow her down, and she made the decision to move to St. Paul, Minnesota to attend McNally Smith College of Music.
“I came here and thought, I’m about to be this huge star...I’m going to make it BIG”
..and then everything just crumbled around her. Her financial difficulties caught up with her “ever forward” mentality, and Danielle was left with no income, no job and was brought to the point of withdrawing from school. Her feeling of defeat may have left her deflated and discouraged, but the fire burning within her to pursue her music career prevailed.
Danielle chose to focus on the higher power and persevere. Through her strong faith and supportive community, Danielle was able to dedicate her positivity and high energy to complete her EP.
